~Take in your surroundings and assess before being hasty in your decision making.
It’s tempting to jump full-in when we’re on a roll, and that’s not always a bad thing. But sometimes we need to slow down and make sure we’re headed the best direction. Don’t be afraid to stop, take a breath, take a look around see where you’re headed. You can’t always see the signs for an important turn if you’re moving too fast.
~Pay attention to details to stay in the present moment.
If you sometimes have trouble staying present, and the worries of the future or regrets of the past keep a hold on you, focus. Focus on one of your physical senses and see how just much you can experience with it. For example, close your eyes and focus on your hearing. What do you hear? How many sounds can you name, and which ones puzzle you? Are the sounds near or far? Are they nature sounds or man-made sounds? You can do this for 15 minutes with any of your senses to bring yourself back to center.
~Help one another, we cannot make it alone.
If you’ve ever fallen so hard you needed help to get up, you may understand why we can’t make it alone. Whether your fall is physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual or other, don’t be afraid to ask for help. The only way we gain anything in this world is from another person; help always comes through people, either directly or indirectly. It may be as simple as asking for a prayer or a hug that shows the universe you are open and ready to receive. Be receptive, be open. You can’t be helped if you can’t receive it. Additionally, be giving, others can’t make it alone either. Be the one to lend a hand to pull someone back to their feet. We need each other.
~Be a survivor by making the world your home.
If you are feeling out of your element, perhaps lost and alone, know that with a little bit of action you will survive. While the tortoise may have a hard protective shell to help protect from the elements, we have our intellect, creativity and infinite resources. To make the world your home means to learn about your environment and adapt your skills as necessary. Notice that first you must learn. Open your mind to new cultures, expectations and social norms. They may be different than what you’re used to, and that’s okay. Learning, accepting, and adapting is what makes the world your home.
